Very humbled, proud and happy to announce that LAPOD Lap Desk was recognised in Australia’s International Good Design Awards for Design Excellence this year.
Not just any year mind you. Being the second year of a world-changing pandemic where working from home has become not just a new skill to settle in to but also, when done well, part of a healthier and more balanced way to focus and work productively. We are not saying we predicted a design response with LAPOD to these 'new' ways of working - but we are gratified to have had the perfect product ready at hand. A product that will assist many people in the 'hybrid model' of work (part workplace / part wfh).
We often receive supportive messages from LAPOD users along the lines of 'not sure how I lived without it before,' or that it's an 'absolute game-changer.' It is this regular feedback from our community that is the heartfelt gold we carry with us always - recognition that through design we are helping people simplify and organise their lives. What could be better than that!
However, we had to laugh as in true pandemic fashion there was not only no IRL awards night event (so luckily no getting stuck at the VIC/NSW border crossing) but also because of lockdowns/ restrictions and hence supply shortages, the physical trophies and certificates could not be completed in time for the announcements. We can relate. And sympathise. So as we are getting good at making-do in these times, we have taken the liberty of 'borrowing' the gold trophy in this post, which we found here. Promise to post a selfie when the real deal trophy arrives in the mail.
LAPOD received a prestigious Good Design Award Gold Accolade in the Product Design category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation. Gold Winners represent design that exceed the Good Design Award selection criteria and as noted by GDA is "a significant achievement considering the high number of submissions and incredible calibre of projects represented in this year’s Awards."
“An innovative and simple solution that ticks all the boxes, while still being an environmentally friendly option. It's a nicely designed item with a clean and simple aesthetic. The concept is quite compelling too.”
We would sincerely like to thank the Good Design Awards and jury for this recognition.
And for making our day!
About The Good Design Awards from their Press Release
The winners of Australia’s peak international design awards were announced during the 2021 Good Design Awards Week. The Good Design Awards are the highest honour for design and innovation in the country and reward projects across 12 design disciplines and 30 subcategories.
“The importance of embracing good design principles is now more important than ever as many businesses around the world have had to completely re-think their business strategies to remain competitive. The standard of design excellence represented in this year’s Awards is the best I’ve ever seen in my 25 years of running these Awards, an encouraging sign that the design sector is flourishing.” ~ Dr. Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia
The Australian Good Design Awards is the country’s oldest and most prestigious international awards for design and innovation with a proud history dating back to 1958. The Awards celebrate the best new products and services on the Australian and international market.
Each entry was evaluated according to a strict set of design evaluation criteria which includes good design, design innovation and design impact. Projects recognised with an Australian Good Design Award demonstrate excellence in professional design and highlight the impact a design-led approach has on business success and social and environmental outcomes.
